Workshop Thoughts!

Posted by Sara

Hey all,

I am excited for the next upcoming weeks of class in the events of workshop. I enjoy reading and learning about other people’s poems and look forward to see the unique creativity that sparks in the classroom. At first, I was a little iffy about the whole concept of sharing my poems with the class, because I wasn’t too sure if everyone would understand the themes my poems would try to convey; but isn’t that what workshop is about? The idea of workshop seems intriguing to be able to branch out and listen to what others have to say about your poems. Personally, I enjoy strong, constructive criticism. I like knowing how my work made others feel and what I could possibly do to improve my poetry. Although, this is what I enjoy, I will not critique other poets work this way. I look forward to reading and experiencing more students’ poetry and learning about the personal or non-personal connections towards each poem.

Sara,

I agree with you. I also enjoy strong criticism, both good and bad. Whatever will help me to revise my stuff. But, of course, I love praise more than anything, haha. But I have been waiting for workshop since the beginning of the semester. It is my favorite part of all my writing classes: reading and sharing work. I was also nervous about if I would embarrass myself, because I don't consider myself a poet. I prefer fiction and nonfiction. But people seemed to like my snot poem, lol, so hopefully they like me 2nd and 3rd poem as well. I guess we'll see.
