Skeptical at First

Posted by Anonymous

I will admit that was a bit skeptical about taking the poetry class when I first got into the creative writing program. There were a couple of different factors involved. First off, I didn't think I was going to be able to understand the poetry language. I know that poetry can be very complex, and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to understand it entirely. I'm pretty thankful that this wasn't true though, as I have gotten much more used to writing and reading poetry. I know I still have a ways to go, but I'm looking forward to reading and writing more of it. The other issue I was concerned with was if I was going to be interested and involved with it. I knew that I was interested in poetry and also interested with learning more about it, but I wasn't sure if that interest would hold up. I'm glad it did though, because the poets we have read about have been really cool in my opinion. The readings have kept my attention, and I have enjoyed learning what the language entails. I'm excited continue with writing and reading poetry.

I felt the same exact way, poetry always interested me but I didn't know if taking a whole class on it would bore me and change my mind. I am glad to say that this class has enhanced my interest and makes me feel more confident as a writer!
