For any gamers!

There are days where I can hash out four poems in a row that I am really pleased with, and then there are weeks I can’t seem to write anything I like or deem worthy of keeping. It can sometimes be frustrating writing for the necessity of the class, when your muse is off on vacation and you’re stuck at a computer, with a blank page and uninspired mind. I have always loved writing poetry on my own and enjoy reading it. I haven’t felt very inspired lately, but this is one of my latest poems that I wrote, just for fun. It is the complete opposite direction of what I usually write and isn’t polished. It needs a lot of revising and some parts are very cliché as of now (especially the last line). Nevertheless, I thought I would share it for all the gamers. I was inspired when playing with my friend. :)

A piece of my heart flickers then fades,

A flawed choice of ‘jack of all trades’,

Asphyxiated through toxic streams of light,

‘Target locked’ through his panoramic sight.

Armor piercing stacked; ignoring my defense,

Critical hits; no match for my offense,

Mana depleted; now I’m left with a decision,

Sparks generated from the force of our collision.

Fleeing fails; I am petrified,

My chance of escape brutally denied,

My cooldown resets; with just seconds to spare

Just as Nate Appears, out of thin air.

Using my ultimate to finish this round,

Nate goes in for the kill-steal and vanishes without a sound.

This is pretty sweet. And if I can tell you anything it is to always try writing in a style that is unlike your usual style. Tim would say that's where your muse comes from or something about free association. But if you liked that, then definitely keep experimenting with your structure, subject matter, inclinations etc. Games, music, images and movies are all great places to get inspiration. For instance, take a movie you love and watch one of the most dramtic/emotion scenes and then just take the feeling it gives you and direct it toward the paper.
