My two favorite poets thus far are Wallace Stevens and Walt
Whitman. What I enjoy about Steven’s work is that his style and components that he uses to make
his poems come alive. I love that he uses color in almost every poem to
describe exactly what it is he is talking about, and I also enjoy that he uses
repetition to emphasize the important parts. Stevens also describes things by
their fragrance, texture, and sound. I think when he uses these adjectives it
makes the poem more realistic, more enjoyable and easier to read. While I read
his work, I can envision exactly what he is saying by the few to many details
he illustrates. Whitman’s style of writing reminds me of a story. “Song my
Myself” is one of my favorite poems because the poem displays the concepts of different
people, as well as the concepts of life. I noticed Whitman’s use of preposition
and places that he described in this poem, which helped me picture exactly what
he was saying.
